Unlocking the Books of…
King’s Lynn Public Library

How did one book help to change the world in the sixteenth century? When is a printed book not just a printed book? And who were the original seventeenth-century donors to King’s Lynn’s library?

Uncover the answers to these questions and more when you explore early-modern treasures from King’s Lynn Public Library. Originally formed from the libraries of St Margaret’s Church (King’s Lynn Minster) and St Nicholas’s Chapel, this collection contains some of the most important books printed in early-modern Europe, from the book that helped spark the Reformation to perhaps the greatest poem ever written in English. You’ll discover beautiful decorative bindings created through painstaking artisanal craftsmanship, as well as books which reveal innovative methods of recycling employed by printers and bookbinders. Keep an eye out for our specially-chosen Family Book, which might particularly interest fans of Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy…
